Sample Training and Supports

We provide many types of training including good employment practice, good governance, child safeguarding and basic level data protection. Sessions can be from a half-day workshop to four to five 2-hour sessions, or longer, if required. Below are some examples of what we can do but please call us for further information.

 

Governance training for Boards


The following sessions contain examples of the material that we typically cover. Organisations can choose the topics most relevant to them, which can be delivered in 2-3 sessions or longer, where required.

  • Session 1 – Overview of company structures, general requirements / responsibilities. Principles (of companies generally) and of Charities Regulator Code of Governance (recommended for all), ethics and values.
  • Session 2 – Roles and responsibilities of directors and trustees, roles of officers, including Company Secretary, Code of Conduct.
  • Session 3 – Risk assessment and management. Identifying policies and procedures required (templates will be available for core policies, if needed).
  • Session 4 – Introduction to the Charities Regulator Code of Governance – becoming compliant.
  • Session 5 – Internal processes – managing conflicts of interest and loyalty, resolving internal tensions process, division of powers. Any other area that has been identified as a gap during the initial consultation and during the training.

  • Important policy documents revisited or introduced and increased buy-in to them;

Employment training and mentoring


Training & guidance to Staffing Subgroup (SSG) in Support & Supervision

  • Session 1 – Introduce board members to the purpose of Support & Supervision, the challenges in providing it and the difference between conduct & performance issues;
  • Session 2 – Step-by-step process using the Support & Supervision template and Supervision History to build the supervision relationship, provide support and give constructive criticism. Role play practices used to practise skills;
  • Session 3 – reflective session following first support & supervision carried out by the SSG – learn by doing, reflect on learning and address difficulties.

Benefits of such training would include

  • Board members have improved awareness of the process and have practiced the skills of supervision;
  • Board members feel more confident providing support and supervision and are more aware of their responsibility;
  • Manager and staff are better supported and managed as result.

Phone Support to Chairperson and/or Manager of an organisation

  • Monthly phone support (approx. 1 hour per month)

Benefits of such support would include:

  • Improved support to the manager and/or chairperson of the organisation;
  • Manager and Chairperson have a confidential space to discuss issues of concern and feel more confident and prepared to make decisions;
  • Increased opportunity for reflection and a thinking space, which reduces isolation and supports decision-making.

External Support & Supervision for Manager

  • Regular support & supervision sessions using a template to provide a structured opportunity to the manager to discuss how they feel they are progressing with the work in some detail and to aid reflective practise.  

Benefits of such support would include

  • Improved workload management;
  • Manager is better able to deal with existing and potential problems;
  • Improved clarity and targets set for coming weeks;
  • Better insight and awareness of strengths, weaknesses and training needs identified.
